LSU guard Adam Miller will play his first season with the program this year after missing last season with a torn ACL. He transferred to Baton Rouge after a strong freshman season at Illinois in 2020-2021. After the firing of Will Wade, the program will lean on new head coach Matt McMahon to keep them on track in the SEC.

In an appearance on Jon Rothstein’s ‘College Hoops Today‘ podcast, McMahon said he likes what he has seen thus far with the redshirt sophomore.

“I’ve been really impressed with Adam,” he said. “It’s been awesome getting to spend time with him this spring and to start building that relationship.”

Miller was the 29th ranked player in the nation on On3’s 2020 Consensus Top Recruits. He averaged 8.3 points per game under Brad Underwood in his one season with the Fighting Illini.

After multiple players transferred from LSU this offseason, Miller will be one of the few returners to the program. In order to keep the program afloat, McMahon will have to rely on Miller even with him coming off injury.

“What’s been really impressive with him, in addition to his elite shooting and playmaking ability, is he’s incredibly smart. A great basketball IQ, a relentless worker. He really wants to take a leadership role with this team,” said McMahon. “I’m excited for him and the opportunities that are ahead.”

Even so, McMahon says there’s still some rehab left to do before Miller is a full-go.

“He is not in five-on-five play yet but he’s cleared for all individual work and non-contact. He looks great,” he said.

Alongside the experience within McMahon’s transfer class, Miller will be a cornerstone for the Tigers next season. With a few months ahead before next season, he’ll need that time to prepare his body to carry the load that will be asked of him.
