Mississippi State's Michael Nwoko commits to LSU

Mississippi State’s Michael Nwoko had earned interest in the transfer portal since entering his name in it last week. Now, just a few days later, Nwoko has already made a commitment to his next school in the same conference.
Nwoko has committed to transfer to the LSU Tigers. On3’s Joe Tipton has since confirmed that decision to go to Baton Rouge.
Louisiana State had been in connection with Nwoko early on after entering the portal. On3’s Jamie Shaw reported as much the day after he went in.
Nwoko has spent two seasons at two schools in Miami and Mississippi State. He has averaged 4.5 points (53.5% FG) and 3.4 rebounds in that collegiate career so far over 63 games with the Hurricanes and Bulldogs. He improved on those numbers as a sophomore as State’s starting center with stats of 6.1 points (52.5% FG) and 4.6 rebounds.
With that, Nwoko is one of two players to leave Starkville during this portal cycle. He as well as Kanye Clary both entered their names in last week.

On the other side, Nwoko is the first transfer addition down in Baton Rouge. However, that’s after five players have left the Tigers in the portal in Vyctorious Miller, Corey Chest, Tyrell Ward, Mike Williams, and Noah Boyde.
Nwoko, a native of Toronto, played his high school basketball at Prolific Prep in Napa, California. He was the No. 118 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect in the 2023 cycle. He also rated as a Top-20 center and player out of California in the class. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. That made him the top-ranked addition out of two in that class for the ‘Canes back in ’23.
Nwoko will be on his third school in three years with his commitment for his junior season to LSU. He’ll stay at two conferences, though, with him remaining in the SEC.
