NFL insider reveals injury update on Derek Stingley, Jr.
The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine is wrapping up in Indianapolis, Indiana. On Sunday, defensive backs from across the country were performing in drills. One player who chose not to perform in drills today was former LSU defensive back Derek Stingley, Jr. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport let everyone know that Stingley got full clearance this week from his doctor, Dr. Robert Anderson on his foot surgery.
He had Lisfranc surgery during the 2021-2022 season and being fully cleared is excellent news for the former LSU star. He is expected to be 100 percent and perform through all the drills at the Tigers’ Pro Day.
“You mentioned that Lisfranc surgery for Derek Stingley, of course happened during the season,” Rapoport said. “He’s been undergoing rehab on a pretty serious injury. He is now seeing Dr. Robert Anderson, the nation’s foremost expert on feet. He’s seen him three times, including here in Indianapolis. My understanding is Dr. Anderson gave him the full clearance. He is now expected to be 100 percent. So very good news there. Should work out and do everything at his pro day. So things are going well, rehab-wise.”
Anderson performed the Lisfranc surgery on Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne last season. He’s currently the Co-Chairman of the NFL’s Musculoskeletal Committee. He also currently serves as the assistant team physician to the Green Bay Packers.

In Bucky Brooks’ latest mock draft, Stingley was slated to be selected by the Washington Commanders with the 11th overall selection in the first round.
Stingley has shown to be one of the nation’s best corners when he is at full strength, but we haven’t seen him at that level since 2019. That year, he totaled 39 tackles, six interceptions and 15 passes defended across 15 games. Over ten games across the past two years, though, Stingley has 35 tackles with zero interceptions and five passes defended, and he had zero passes defended before his injury this past season.
