The offensive line was one of the biggest question marks for LSU entering Brian Kelly’s first season in Baton Rouge. But some young linemen are stepping up, and transfer running back Noah Cain pointed out two in particular.

Cain cited freshmen Will Campbell and Emery Jones as two impact players on the front lines for LSU this season. The Tigers rank fourth in the SEC with 198.8 rushing yards per game, meaning the running game is looking strong so far this season — and the offensive line is doing its job.

Cain said Campbell and Jones have impressed him so far this season not only because of their performance, but also their preparation and how they carry themselves.

“Will and Emery, they’re very mature, something that I’ve noticed from coming in,” Cain said. “Two of the best guys I’ve been around as far as o-linemen up front. Just that preparation. They’re very mature for their age, just being out of high school, coming into the SEC. Their outlook on things, the way they work, they [are] locked in. Those guys work hard, they’re very coachable. They’re not very worried about what they did in high school, not worried about what people are saying about them. They’re just ready to get better every day.

“They take coaching very well. I think if you can take coaching very well at a young age like that, it’s just going to help you make faster progress than others because you’re able to understand what the coaches are asking [and] make adjustments. Those guys have been great for us. They’ve got a very bright future. I’m just excited. They’re blocking for me, man. They make the team better.”

Both Campbell and Jones were highly touted four-star recruits last year and are living up to the billing. Campbell was the No. 2 offensive line prospect in the nation while Jones came in at No. 6, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
