North Dakota State left-handed pitcher Danny Lachenmayer has committed to defending National Champions LSU via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Lachenmayer, who was selected to the 2025 All-Summit First Team as a freshman, announced the decision on X/Twitter Thursday afternoon.

The Eagan, MN, native appeared in 24 games (zero starts) for North Dakota State this season. He pitched to a 2.37 ERA in 38 innings with 56 strikeouts, 18 walks and a .192 opponent batting average.

Lachenmayer was a pivotal bullpen piece for a North Dakota State program that entered the Summit League Tournament with a 17-31 record and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. There, the Bison even won a game against Kansas before falling in the Fayetteville Regional.

The left-hander saw action in two of the Bison NCAA Tournament games (Kansas and Creighton), where he allowed four hits and no runs with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work. He becomes LSU‘s third addition out of the portal, joining Kansas State second baseman Seth Dardar and High Point third baseman Brayden Simpson.

LSU Transfer Portal departures:

  • INF Ryan Costello
  • RHP Chandler Dorsey (UCF)
  • INF David Hogg II
  • RHP Trenton Lape
  • OF Mic Paul
  • C Blaise Priester
  • INF Michael Ryan
  • INF Trevor Schmidt
  • INF/RHP Dylan Thompson
  • RHP Kade Woods

LSU Transfer Portal additions:

  • INF Seth Dardar (Kansas State)
  • LHP Danny Lachenmayer (North Dakota State)
  • INF Brayden Simpson (High Point)

Lachenmayer will now be headed to an LSU program that won its second National Championship in three years last week. The Tigers compiled a 53-15 record and downed Coastal Carolina in two games to win the Men’s College World Series.

His addition bolsters an already strong Tiger pitching staff returning for next season, led by pitching coach Nate Yeskie. Head coach Jay Johnson boasted about Yeskie and gave his pitch to high school and transfer portal arms following their second win over the Chanticleers.

“If you’re a pitcher out there, high school or portal, you should want to come here largely because of Nate [Yeskie],” Johnson said. “And Jamie Tutko is our director of pitching development and analytics and has helped take this thing to a new level as well. We’ve got it all. We’ve got it all. I’m just really proud of that side of the ball. We had to elevate the talent in the LSU baseball program on the mound when I took over here. And we have and we’ve executed it at developing them as good as I ever would have dreamed of or imagined.”
