Northeastern Huskies shooting guard Rashad King has committed to transfer to the LSU Tigers, On3 has learned. This comes after spending the first three years of his career with Northeastern.

King initially attended Northeastern after playing his high school basketball at Evans High School in Georgia. There, he was a largely overlooked recruit but had been recruited by several schools. That included UMKC, who he committed to before a coaching change.

Since his freshman season, King has been an important player for the Huskies, starting in 11 games as a freshman. By his Junior season, he started all 32 games that he played in for Northeastern and averaged 36.6 minutes per game. In the process, he was able to make the 2025 All-CAA First Team. He would also help lead Northeastern to a 17-15 overall record and a 9-9 record in CAA play.

For the season, Rashad King averaged 18.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He was able to do that on 44.9 percent shooting from the field, 31.9 percent from three-point range, and 85.3 percent from the free-throw line. On the defensive end, King averaged 0.8 blocks and 1.4 steals per game.

The LSU Tigers are coming off a disappointing season. In the third season for Matt McMahon leading the program, the Tigers went just 14-18 overall and 3-15 in SEC play. That was good for a 15th-ranked regular season finish in conference play. They would lose in the first round of the SEC Tournament. With that, LSU has finished with a losing record in two out of three seasons under McMahon.

The Transfer Portal opened for college basketball amid the NCAA Tournament and ahead of the Sweet Sixteen. That timing has become a point of much debate among coaches, arguing that the calendar is becoming too difficult to navigate for those programs making deeper runs in the NCAA Tournament.

LSU is now hoping that it is going to be able to take a step forward by taking some of the right players out of the Transfer Portal. That includes Rashad King, who is taking the step up in competition and hoping to become a key player who helps the Tigers become more competitive in the SEC next season.
