Dylan Crews updates health after slamming into wall in 9th inning
LSU star Dylan Crews had a scary collision during the ninth inning of Monday’s Baton Rouge Regional championship game. Crews slammed into the wall in centerfield and stayed down for a moment, before making his way to his feet and remaining in the game.
After the Tigers held on for a 13-7 win, Crews spoke with ESPN about the collision and was in a joking mood.
“It would’ve been a lot cooler if I would’ve caught it. I looked up and [the wall] was right at my face,” Crews said.
As Crews alluded to, he was unable to hold onto the ball after slamming into the wall. Oregon State’s Gavin Turley ended up hitting an inside-the-park home run on the play.
It didn’t matter, though, as LSU held on to advance to a super regional. The Tigers will host the winner of Indiana and Kentucky next weekend and Crews should be fine, even if he’s a little sore right now.
“I’m going to take some time off, get my mind reset. But I’ll be watching [Kentucky and Indiana]. Looking forward to it. … I need an ice bath, I’m hurting right now,” Crews said while laughing.

“I was sticking to my plan,” Crews said. “I worked hard this week, just getting my swing dialed in and yea just went out there and stuck to my approach, stuck to my plan every at bat. So that was good.”
LSU looks dangerous heading into its super regional, after limping into the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers were 4-5 in their final nine games before the start of the tourney.
“I think all of our bats are finally coming together and gelling the right way,” Crews said. “And our pitchers, too. It doesn’t matter who we bring in at any moment, I think they’re going to come in and do the job. So I think everybody’s doing what they’re supposed to be doing. We have faith in everybody.”
Riley Cooper got the start on the mound for LSU, making only the sixth start of his career. Cooper and each pitcher LSU threw on Monday allowed at least one run, but the Tigers stayed comfortably ahead throughout.
“It was awesome. A great job by all of our guys today, man,” Crews said. “They were just pounding the zone, commanding all of their pitches. It was awesome from the start to the last guy.”
