As we entered this weekend, the SEC Championship Game looked like it had plenty of stakes to make it a more than interesting matchup. Georgia is looking to avenge their sole loss from a year ago. Meanwhile, although LSU was ranked in the Top-5, they were going to play the part of David and try to knock off Goliath in order to make a case for a spot in the College Football Playoff. However, those stakes took a significant hit when the Tigers went on the road and lost 38-23 to Texas A&M, one of the league’s worst teams this year, to end the regular season.

With that devastating third loss, Paul Finebaum believes it’s a bad omen for what’s to come for the Tigers in Atlanta from what he said on ‘McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning’. Regardless of how the media spins it this week, he expects it to be all Dawgs come Saturday.

“I’m still planning on going if that’s what you’re asking,” said Finebaum. “No I don’t (think there’s a chance of a potential upset). That’s just being matter-of-fact, not cliche driven. I’ll lean on my brethren at the SEC Network to do their very best to make this into a compelling matchup. I don’t know how many hours of programming we have. But, somewhere in that, you’re going to hear a lot of hyperbole about what LSU has done this season. But what I saw Saturday was extremely disappointing.”

LSU was probably still going to need some help to really force the issue and make a playoff case. A third loss, though, is about as certain as a nail in the coffin gets.

The Tigers could still win the SEC title after being one of the season’s best stories. Still, they’re ultimately going to come up short of their biggest goal. Based on Finebaum’s expectations, they’ll be suffering a fourth loss by the end of the week too.

“Brian Kelly has done a good job in keeping his team glued together during an incredible stretch. It obviously fell apart on him Saturday. And I think he’s going to end the season with another pretty bad loss,” Finebaum said.
