Paul Finebaum reveals his biggest doubts surrounding LSU
LSU‘s National L-Club Spring Game was a closely contested scrimmage that ended in a 32-32 tie on Saturday. Both sides of the ball looked promising for the Tigers, as they look to repeat as SEC West champions this upcoming season and push for a conference title.
College football analyst Paul Finebaum was asked if he thinks the Tigers can repeat as West champs on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning on Monday, and has one doubt about Brian Kelly’s squad.
“Well I think ultimately the biggest reason I’m not sure LSU can repeat is the game in Tuscaloosa, because by all accounts that should settle the west,” Finebaum said. “But I understand the optimism and it should be there.”
The Tigers are a long way away from worrying about the Crimson Tide yet, as they bring back a ton of talent and production from last year’s roster including dangerous dual-threat quarterback Jayden Daniels and freshman All-American Harold Perkins.

“And I talked to (Brian) Kelly on I believe it was Thursday and I asked him about the quarterback situation and he said matter of factly we have two quarterbacks. That’s a plus, and the receivers are even a bigger plus. I think is this team deep enough, we know (Harold) Perkins, we know other players that stand out, but are they deep enough to make that run?” Finebaum asked. “And that’s ultimately really an Alabama, LSU, maybe you wanna throw somebody else in there you can.”
The Tigers don’t just return talent, but young talent, as they had more SEC All-Freshman team selectees last season than any other team in the conference. They have more continuity than the Crimson Tide and have bragging rights following last year’s thrilling win over Alabama, but will it be enough to topple the Tide on the road and make another appearance in the conference championship game?
“But I always think, being traditional here and I’m picking the wrong game to make this argument because Alabama as we all know has owner Tiger Stadium for most of the modern era, but that’s a tougher game for LSU to win on the road I think and that’s the only reason I’m not going with LSU. I’m still with Alabama right now. But a week left in the portal seems like a very small amount of time, but I’m hanging on to see if anything happens,” Finebaum concluded.
