LSU receiver Malik Nabers scores touchdown after suffering shoulder injury
LSU suffered a potentially significant injury early in a contest against Mississippi State on Saturday, with receiver Malik Nabers having to receive treatment on the sidelines. Nabers made sure to let everyone know quickly that he’s just fine.
Nabers was injured on a tackle in the first quarter.
“Just a quick update, Malik Nabers, who had four catches on LSU’s opening drive is dealing with a right shoulder injury,” ESPN sideline reporter Katie George said. “He came off to the sidelines, athletic trainers were assessing it, working on it. He was writhing in pain. He’s on the bench right now with the wide receivers still trying to work through that pain, but something to keep an eye on moving forward.”
Nabers appeared to be willing to play through some pain, as he recorded a catch shortly after ESPN reported on his condition from the sidelines. In fact, he recorded a 26-yard touchdown reception on a deep corner route from Jayden Daniels, putting the Tigers up 10-0 in the contest with 3:38 remaining in the first quarter.
In just one quarter of action, Nabers had already logged six catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. He had four catches for 22 yards prior to his injury.
Suffice it to say the injury isn’t prohibitive currently.
Malik Nabers suffered the apparent shoulder injury on a tackle by Mississippi State cornerback DeCarlos Nicholson, with Nicholson landing on top of Nabers as his right shoulder crashed into the grass.

LSU injury report vs. Mississippi State
While LSU appears to have escaped the worst with Nabers on the injury front, the Tigers are playing a little bit banged up, especially on defense.
Defensive back Greg Brooks Jr. was listed unavailable for the contest before it began, while linebacker Omar Speights was listed out. Speights’ exact injury is unknown, with the veteran transfer not playing in the second half against Grambling last week.
Kelly had previously listed Speights as “probable” during the week.
Speights has recorded nine tackles through the first game and a half, good enough for fourth on the team. He transferred to LSU this offseason from Oregon State.
