Report: LSU suspends cornerback Raydarious Jones for entire 2022 season
With the season right around the corner, LSU’s roster was hit with some pivotal suspensions today. The Athletic broke the news that Tiger running back John Emery would miss the first pair of games in the season based on a report. The report also included a defensive suspension, one that will cost a player his entire season.
According to Brody Miller’s report, that player is junior corner Raydarious Jones as he will miss the entire 2022 season due to academic issues.
Jones was the No. 35 CB in On3’s 2019 Consensus Top Football Recruits. He appeared in four games last season with nine total tackles and a pass deflection as a sophomore.
Jones could have taken a big leap as one of the defensive veterans on Brian Kelly’s first LSU team. That will now be put on hold, though, until his academic standing improves in Baton Rouge.

Emery is still attempting to appeal the decision with just two weeks until the season opener. If he does not win his appeal, the running back will miss games against Florida State in New Orleans and a home matchup vs. Southern.
According to Miller, Emery has done everything right since Brian Kelly was named the head coach. Nothing new has come up with the new coaching staff — the suspension is “entirely” from the previous academic issues.
“LSU sources are adamant John Emery has done everything right, including academically, since Brian Kelly took over and there are no issues with him from new staff,” Miller said via Twitter. “This potential suspension is entirely from previous issues.”
