LSU receiver Kyren Lacy is reportedly wanted on negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run charges stemming from a Dec. 17, 2024 accident that killed a former Marine and injured two others, according to Louisiana State Police via Baton Rouge television station WAFB.

Louisiana State Police investigators allege Lacy, who declared for the 2025 NFL Draft two days after the crash, sped from the scene of the 10 a.m. ET accident after initially causing it and did not report his involvement to police.

Lacy, a 24-year-old native of Thibodaux, is also wanted on a charge of reckless driving, per court records. Louisiana State Police is currently “in communication with Lacy and his legal representation to turn himself in,” according to WAFB’s Ethan Tuttle.

According to the police report, Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on I-20 and “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated No-Passing Zone.”

At that point, a northbound driver in a pickup truck abruptly hit the breaks and swerved to avoid a head-on-collision with Lacy’s Dodge Charger, forcing a Kia Cadenza that was behind the pickup to swerve left, crossing the centerline and hitting a southbound Kia Sorrento head-on, according to the police report via WAFB.

A passenger in the Kia Sorrento, Herman Hall of Thibodaux, was critically injured and later died at a local hospital, according to investigators. Hall, 78, was a former Marine.

Lacy wrapped his senior season in Baton Rouge this Fall, leading the Tigers with nine receiving touchdowns to go along with 58 receptions for 866 yards, ranking first on the team averaging 72.2 receiving yards per game in 2024.

Brian Kelly addresses Kyren Lacy post-touchdown penalty, further LSU frustrations

Following the team’s Week 1 loss to USCLSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly garnered plenty of attention for his post-game press conference where he expressed his frustrations with how his team played during the game, including a post-touchdown penalty for Kyren Lacy.

“It was a matter of frustration,” Kelly said on the Sept. 9 episode of The Paul Finebaum Show. “I’m frustrated and angry that we’re not getting the kinds of things happening for our guys. Our guys are working so hard. I’ll give you an example, Kyren Lacy. He gets a personal foul penalty. He pointed his finger at a friend of his, and Kyren’s been working on emotional control. He talks about it all the time. So, it’s not something that he doesn’t work on and yet it goes against him. Major Burns is a young man that every single day he’s trying to work hard at these things but they come and bite them at the worst times.”

Discipline was one of the issues that Brian Kelly highlighted after the game. That included multiple issues like personal fouls, a targeting call in the closing moments of the game, and other procedural issues. In total, LSU got hit with 10 penalties for 99 yards on the game.
