Charles Schwab Stadium might be home to the College World Series but the real competition is taking place at Rocco’s. A bar in Omaha, the annual Jell-O Shot Challenge is taking center stage. The concept is a simple one — all eight CWS participants have their names up on a whiteboard, while updates on how many each team has purchased are periodically given on a daily basis.

Just above the standings, you will find a plaque honoring Ole Miss, as their fans put on a show last season. A total of 18,777 Jell-O shots were consumed by Rebel supporters as the school went on its way to winning the national championship.

Unfortunately for them, there is a new king in town. And it should not surprise you who is coming out on top, as the LSU Tigers now hold the Rocco’s Jell-O Shot Challenge record. Ole Miss officially fell on Monday with just over a week before the College World Series is over.

Rocco’s is going to need a new plaque.

A truly historic moment for more than just one reason. Raising Cane’s and LSU alum Todd Graves helped the Tigers get over the hump, purchasing 6,000 Jell-O shots. At $5 a pop, you can do the math on how large that bill was.

Graves now holds his own Guinness World Record, having the most shots purchased by a single person. A special moment for Graves and LSU fans ahead of their Monday night 1-0 matchup against Wake Forest.

Prior to Ole Miss, in-state rival Mississippi State was the record holder. They too won the national championship and fans decided to party hard at Rocco’s. Maybe there is a trend in here somewhere, as LSU has smoked their competition — at the bar — out of the water.

It’s well known that fans from Baton Rouge travel incredibly well to support their baseball team. They are never shy of having a drink or five either.

“We love any team that comes,” Rocco’s manager Pat McEvoy said when speaking to New Orleans’ FOX 8 about the challenge. “We just know some teams bring the party. Some teams bring ‘Dancing in the Street’ type party, right? And that’s LSU, for sure.”

No team is currently even relatively close to LSU, as they will go on to win the challenge. Wake Forest has put up a good effort, but still sits a resounding 15,863 behind at the record-breaking update. Fellow SEC schools Florida and Tennessee are seriously slacking behind, though. Even with the Gators being 2-0 on the diamond, they are not putting up numbers at Rocco’s.

When LSU makes the College World Series, the goal of the team is, of course, to be the final team standing.

However, restaurants and bars in Omaha turn out to be the real winner. Business throughout the week has to be significantly better when the Tigers are in town. Success in games, as LSU finds itself 1-0, can only help.
