Texas DL Sydir Mitchell commits to LSU from the NCAA Transfer Portal
DL Sydir Mitchell has committed to LSU out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed the news.
This comes after Mitchell made a visit to Death Valley, as multiple predictions came in for the Tigers in his transfer recruitment per RPM. Now, he’ll be playing for a new program in the SEC.
Mitchell just finished his second collegiate season as a redshirt freshman at Texas. While in Austin, Mitchell appeared in nine games with four last fall and then five this past one. In total on the defensive line for the Longhorns, Mitchell posted seven tackles.
Mitchell, a native of Oradell, New Jersey, played high school football at Bergen Catholic. He was the No. 226 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect in the 2023 cycle. He also rated as a Top-30 DL in the class and the No. 3 player out of his state.

Now, per the latest in On3’s Top Transfer Portal Players, Mitchell is the No. 27 DL and the No. 358 overall transfer. LSU has now reached double-digit additions in the portal so far in this transfer cycle with all of the commitments and signings coming within the last week. Mitchell makes 11 in total along with TE Bauer Sharp (Oklahoma), CBs Ja’Keem Jackson (Florida) and Mansoor Delane (Virginia Tech), DEs Jack Pyburn (Florida) and Jimari Butler (Nebraska), QB Michael Van Buren (Mississippi State), P Grant Chadwick (MTSU), and three wide receivers in Barion Brown (Kentucky), Destyn Hill (Florida State), and Nic Anderson (Oklahoma). Eight of those rank in the Top-200 currently for On3.
After changing his mind about originally entering portal before doing so again, Mitchell will now be in Baton Rouge after transferring to join the Tigers’ roster.
