Former Murray State guard Trae Hannibal announces transfer commitment to LSU
After Matt McMahon left Murray State to become the head coach at LSU, the Racers saw multiple players enter the transfer portal. Another one of those players is following McMahon to Baton Rouge.
Former Racers guard Trae Hannibal took to Twitter to announce his commitment to the Tigers on Thursday night. He’s the second former Murray State player to join back up with McMahon after Justice Hill committed earlier this week.
Hannibal started his college career at South Carolina, meaning he’s no stranger to SEC basketball. He played two years for the Gamecocks, averaging 4.8 points per game in 46 appearances over that time. His numbers got a little better with Murray State when he averaged 9.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 34 games for the Racers in 2021-22.
He played a big role off the bench as Murray State rattled off a 31-3 record this past season to make the NCAA Tournament, where the Racers defeated San Francisco in the first round. Ironically, San Francisco coach Todd Golden also took the jump to the SEC, taking over for Mike White at Florida.
Former Murray State guard Justice Hill commits to LSU
It didn’t take long for former Murray State guard Justice Hill to make up his mind after entering the transfer portal earlier in the month. Hill has announced that he will head to the state of Louisiana and join his former head coach Matt McMahon at LSU.

The sophomore guard ranked No. 49 in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. Hill put up big numbers in his second season with the Racers and helped lead them to an NCAA tournament berth. He and the Racers made it to the second round of the big dance after defeating San Francisco, but lost to this year’s Cinderella story, Saint Peter’s.
Hill announced his decision from his social media account with this post.
“I’m beyond blessed and grateful for the opportunities that I’ve been presented with these past few days. But all in all, I’m committed to the people that have been committed to me! #GeauxTigers,” wrote Hill via Twitter.
Hill originally committed to Arkansas as part of the 2019 class. He only spent one semester with the Razorbacks before entering the portal and transferring to Salt Lake Community College. he joined Murray State ahead of the 2020-2021 season, and turned into a key player for the Racers.
Hill announced his decision to transfer via his Twitter account on Monday.
