Going up against No. 1 seed Wake Forest, LSU came up short on Monday, falling to the Demon Deacons 3-2. The Tigers will now head to an elimination game, fighting to keep their College World Series hopes alive.

They’ll also face a familiar foe in Tennessee for the second time in four days. Still, Tre’ Morgan said the message remains the same as it did before the CWS got started. The Tigers just have to stay the course — even with the season on the line.

“Short version is keep doing what we’ve been doing all season,” Morgan said. “Like I said, we go out there every time and our plan is to win one pitch at a time. As a team, like I said, we go out there and play together like it’s our last time playing the game.

“Nothing changes. We’re in a different position now obviously, but our mental is still great. We’re going to show out tomorrow.”

LSU took a 2-0 lead in the third inning thanks to an RBI single by Tommy White and an RBI triple by Morgan. But Wake Forest didn’t back down and scored two runs in the sixth inning to tie things up at 2-2. The Demon Deacons then took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the eighth when Bennett Lee drove in the go-ahead run make it a 3-2 Wake Forest lead.

That held as the final score, sending the Demon Deacons to the semifinals. For LSU, it means another date with Tennessee, which the Tigers beat 6-3 in their opening game on Saturday.

As for how LSU will prepare for the rematch, Morgan again said things aren’t much different than they were heading into Saturday’s game. The attitude has been to play like the season will end with a loss.

Tuesday night, that’s the reality of the situation. A win sends LSU to the semifinals. A loss sends the Tigers home. That’s why Morgan said keeping the same mentality is important.

“Nothing changes for us mentally,” Morgan said. “We always go out there and try to win one pitch at a time. We always play like it’s our last time playing the game. So we’re going to show up tomorrow and keep the same mentality, play like it’s our last time playing together.”

First pitch between the LSU vs. Tennessee rematch is set for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. The Volunteers also played yesterday, coming back to eliminate Stanford with a 6-4 victory.
