LSU is headed back to the College World Series final for the first time in seven years after defeating top-seeded Wake Forest in the national semifinal twice in as many days.

The Tigers couldn’t have done it by themselves, which is why first baseman Tre’ Morgan made sure to credit the LSU fans that made the trip to Charles Schwab Field Omaha for helping keep the Tiger bats alive well into the 11th inning on Thursday — and the entire tournament for that matter.

“We have the best fans in the country. And that showed [against Wake Forest],” Morgan said on Friday. “It was awesome, celebrating with our guys on the field and then we turn and we look at the fans and they’re all on the rail standing up, cheering, chanting LSU.

“I mean, if that didn’t give you goosebumps then I don’t know what else would. But that feeling was amazing.”

As soon as Morgan’s teammate Tommy White’s 11th-inning bat connected with the ball — the party started in Omaha. White didn’t even get the chance to round the bases before LSU fans were throwing popcorn in the stands, jumping up and down on the bleachers and screaming in elation for their championship series-bound Tigers.

“It just shows that’s why we’re here. That’s why we came to play for the SEC,” Morgan said. “We believe it is the best conference in baseball. And I mean the history shows that trophy [in the SEC], where that trophy has gone multiple times.”

Now, they’ll take on Florida in a best two-out-of-three series to determine the 2023 national champion. The Gators, who are 3-0 in Omaha this week and swept their wat through their bracket, looks to keep that momentum going and claim their first NCAA title since 2017. The Tigers are looking for their seventh title in program history, and first since 2009.

Coincidentally, this year’s College World Series will be decided by two teams in the same conference for the third time since 2017. Coincidentally, 2017 saw the Gators take down LSU in the championship series — something the Tigers won’t be wanting to repeat.

With Morgan leading the charge at the plate, Game 1 between the Gators and Tigers is set for 7 p.m. ET live on ESPN and ESPN+. Florida will head into the opening matchup as a slight betting favorite (-130) over LSU, according to Caesars Sportsbook. The over/under total is set at 9.5 runs.
