Tyrann Mathieu sends message on LSU football defensive coordinator
Newly hired head coach for the LSU Tigers Brian Kelly has made his selection on the next defensive coordinator for the program. On Tuesday, LSU announced that Matt House would be named the defensive coordinator of LSU football.
Former LSU defensive star Tyrann Mathieu also weighed in on Matt House’s move to his alma mater on Twitter, providing a glowing review of the newest member of Brian Kelly’s staff.
“I’m excited for coach House and all of tiger nation!” Mathieu posted. “This man loves football and teaching! One of the best I’ve been around. This tiger defense will be well coached from day one! Let’s all buy in! Forever LSU!”
Tyrann Mathieu and Matt House both joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, winning Super Bowl LIV in their first season. Although House worked primarily with the linebackers while Mathieu lined up in the defensive backfield at safety, it appears the player likes what he saw from a distance inside the building.
More about Matt House
Matt House will leave his position as linebacker coach for the Chiefs, and will commence duties after the NFL season. After announcing the hire, Kelly had this to say on his newly appointed defensive coordinator.

“Matt checks every box we’re looking for in a defensive coordinator,” Kelly said. “He’s led elite SEC defenses, recruited and developed all-conference and All-American performers at multiple positions, and garnered ample experience in both the NFL and as a coordinator at multiple collegiate stops.
“He possesses a great understanding on how to defend the type of offenses we will face each week in our conference, and his ability to put players in position to make plays aligns perfectly with the identity that we want to develop with our defense. I’m excited that he’s joining our staff as we work toward building a championship program at LSU.”
House also spent time in the college ranks before as a defensive coordinator with Kentucky, Pittsburgh, and Florida International. He also released a statement of his own on Tuesday night.
“It is an honor to join Coach Kelly’s staff at LSU,” said House. “I firmly believe in Coach Kelly’s vision and look forward to getting to work. I am confident there are many exciting times ahead for the Tiger football family. Our staff will work tirelessly to develop our young men both on and off the field as we set a championship standard – We will develop genuine relationships with our players, our staff, and the wonderful people in the state of Louisiana!”
