Tyree Adams injury update: Brian Kelly explains reported surgery for LSU OL
On Thursday, Brian Kelly addressed the sudden addition of Tyree Adams to the injury report for LSU.
Kelly didn’t want to go too into the explanation of the injury that Adams suffered ahead of kickoff last weekend against Ole Miss. Still, it was significant enough for him to undergo a surgery in the last few days. That has him out now for the foreseeable future.
“He had a – you know, I don’t want to get into the specifics because I don’t know the exact medical terms but he had what would be considered like a sports hernia,” said Kelly. “There are – and, again, don’t. I mean, our doctors and trainers could give you more if you’re looking for it but he had to have surgery for that. So, he clearly is out.”
It was more unfortunate for Adams too considering it was something that just happened as he was preparing with the rest of the Tigers for their last game.
“It was something that happened in pregame. Crazy – I’ve never seen it happen in over 30 years,” said Kelly. “A guy who, you know, took all the reps with the second group and physically in good shape, lifting weights. Had this happen in pregame warmups.”

This comes after Adams himself revealed that he had had the “successful surgery” on social media.
Adams is in his second season in Baton Rouge. He had seen backup snaps over the course of this fall as a reserve offensive lineman for the unit.
Adams came to LSU last season as a four-star prospect per On3’s Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was a Top-200 recruit that was the No. 13 OT and No. 11 player from Louisiana in 2023. He then committed to the Tigers among other offers from around the SEC.
While being a young piece in their program, Adams is now out for some extent to start the second half of this season.
“It’s too bad,” said Kelly. “He had to have surgery and he’ll be out.”
