Unique stat reveals LSU 11-2 across sports in title game/series appearances

LSU baseball has just secured their seventh national championship in program history after defeating their SEC rival Florida 18-4 in Game 3 of the championship series. And as impressive as the baseball program has captured its seventh championship, the first one since 2009, the school’s record in championship games and series is even more special.
LSU has played in a grand total of 13 national championship games and/or series: eight in baseball, four in football, and one in women’s college basketball. And in those thirteen appearances, the Tigers are a staggering 11-2, per SEC Network’s Peter Burns. LSU’s two losses when a national championship was on the line came in the men’s College World Series in 2017 and in the BCS national championship game in 2012. Surprisingly enough, both of those losses came at the hands of fellow SEC programs; Florida beat LSU in the 2017 CWS series 2-0, and the Crimson Tide took down the Tigers 21-0.
Before freshman Gavin Guidry got the last out of the game, cementing LSU as the 2023 national champions, star outfielder Dylan Crews got into the celebratory mood a little early. While LSU was in the midst of blowing Florida out in Game 3, capping off what has been a magical College World Series run in impressive fashion, Crews channeled previous Tigers champions, letting the world know where he wants his championship hardware.
Dylan Crews continues LSU tradition, flashes ‘ring me’ celebration at College World Series
For somebody who could have gone professional straight out of high school, Monday night has to be an incredible feeling for Crews. Even with the game out of hand, Crews has found a way to deliver. In Crews’ second to last plate appearance as a college player, he was able to rip a triple in the right-center alley, sliding in head-first. Crews called time and stood up before pulling out a familiar celebration.

‘Ring me’ was what Crews pointed out toward the LSU dugout. Don’t worry, Dylan. Those will be coming in the near future.
This is nothing new for LSU fans. Those in Baton Rouge are getting quite used to seeing this celebration. Joe Burrow pulled off the move when the football program finished off a dominant season in 2019. Angel Reese then followed suit in March when women’s basketball got the job done earlier this year.
Crews had a season nobody in Baton Rouge will ever forget, being named the Golden Spikes Award winner. He will soon be a top MLB Draft pick, likely at No. 1 or No. 2. But right now, it’s Crews’ turn to celebrate with he fellow Tigers on capturing another national title for the program.
