UNLV transfer Dedan Thomas commits to LSU

Dedan Thomas was immediately a top-rated player in the portal upon his entry in it. Now, he has made his commitment to transfer to play in the most challenging conference in all of college basketball. Thomas has committed to transfer to LSU out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.
Thomas spent his first two collegiate seasons at an underclassman at UNLV. While with the Rebels, Thomas averaged 14.5 points (43.2% FG, 35.8% 3PT), 4.9 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game in leading them in scoring and assists in both of his years there. In that time, he was also recognized as Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Year, specifically after breaking the league’s freshman assist record, and as a two-time selection as All-Mountain West. However, upon the firing of Kevin Kruger, he was one of multiple players to put their names in the portal from the program during this cycle.
Per the latest in On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players, Thomas is the No. 8 overall transfer. He’s also rated as the No. 3 PG in the portal.
Thomas, a Las Vegas native, played his high school basketball at Liberty. He was the No. 35 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect after reclassifying to 2023. He also rated as the No. 9 PG in the class and the No. 1 player out of the state of Nevada. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

LSU is coming off of a tough season in 2024-25. The Tigers went 14-18 overall and missed the NCAA Tournament for the third time under head coach Matt McMahon. The Tigers are a combined 45-53 under McMahon and have never made the NCAA Tournament under his guidance.
