Virginia Tech Hokies defensive back Mansoor Delane has committed to transfer to the LSU Tigers for the 2025 season, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Mansoor Delane spent the last three seasons with Virginia Tech. During that time, he played in 33 games and had 146 total tackles. That included eight tackles for loss. On top of that, he has six career interceptions and 16 pass breakups with four forced fumbles. Four of those interceptions, seven of those pass breakups, and two of those forced fumbles came in 2023.

After playing his high school football at Archbishop Spalding in Maryland. There, he became a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 57th-ranked safety and the 653rd-ranked player overall in that recruiting cycle.

Despite being listed as a safety coming out of high school, Virginia Tech lists him as a cornerback and that’s the position he’s primarily played during his college career.

The 2024 season was a frustrating one for the LSU Tigers, who ended up going 8-4 during the regular season and missing out on the College Football Playoff. A major issue throughout the season ended up being consistency on the defensive side of the ball, which head coach Brian Kelly is now trying to address with moves like the one to bring Mansoon Delane into the program.

LSU ended the 2024 regular season ranked 57th in the country in scoring defense, giving up 23.8 points per game. However, that was just 13th in the SEC, ahead of only Florida, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. On top of that, the Tigers were 46th in the country in passing defense, giving up 205.9 yards per game through the air. They also forced just five interceptions as a team.

The Transfer Portal opened on December 9th for the first of two windows for players to enter the Transfer Portal. The other is set to take place during the spring.

LSU has already been active in the Transfer Portal, looking to add to its roster to fix some holes. So far in this cycle, LSU’s transfer class includes 16 players who have left the program and seven who have transferred into the program. All of the players who transferred into the program are coming from Power Four conference teams.

Mansoor Delane will look to impact the LSU defense with one season of eligibility remaining.
