Detailing gambling scandal involving Kayshon Boutte
Another gambling story is hitting the sports world, with former LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte being involved. Boutte has a warrant out for his arrest in Baton Rouge related to charges of online gaming. He reportedly placed nearly 9,000 times and involved “several hundred thousand dollars.”
On3’s Andy Staples detailed the situation, saying there might be something going in Boutte’s favor in the scandal. He was betting on himself on certain occasions, including during the 2022 season opener against Florida State. Had Boutte been wagering himself to go under in certain areas, Staples believes we would have a bigger case on our hands.
“Obviously, if you’re playing in a game, you can’t have money on it,” Staples said during Thursday’s episode of Andy Staples On3. “It’s just not going to work in any way, shape, or form. But I do feel differently when it’s somebody saying ‘Yeah, I’m going to score a touchdown’ or ‘I’m going to gain this many yards.’ If they bet under on themselves, that’s a very different story.”
Boutte was not too discrete with the gambling accounts he used, having multiple usernames with his real name in there. ‘kayshonboutte7’ and Kayshonboutte01’ were found under the names ‘Tanisha Boutte‘ and ‘Kayla Fortenberry‘, respectfully.
Unfortunately, this is not the first gambling scandal we have in the world of college athletics. Iowa and Iowa State were the first, with the trail still ongoing. Multiple student-athletes across different sports are involved, although it should be a lengthy court case.

Staples’ point being — there are going to be multiple stories breaking about collegiate athletes being involved in gambling on games.
“It’s going to happen with this stuff,” Staples said. “We saw it with Iowa and Iowa State. As that one unravels, it’s going to get a lot more interesting. Because that case has some layers to it as well. But there are going to be players who are involved with this stuff.”
Scandals have even broken in the NFL, with Calvin Ridley serving a lengthy suspension for wagering on games. To this point, the issues have not solely been on the college side of it and more specifically, college football. Even the professionals have gotten in trouble.
Boutte was not the first and Staples predicts he will not be the last. Online gambling has become quite popular across the country over the last couple of years. Others will wind up in a similar situation to the former LSU wide receiver.
