LSU commit William Schmidt had been flirting with the MLB Draft this summer. However, he ultimately decided to spurn the majors for a career in college first.

Heading to Baton Rouge, Schmidt has some goals. Perhaps one reason why he didn’t opt to immediately enter the pros is because he wants that experience of going to Omaha for the College World Series. In a conversation with the Mik’d Up Podcast, Schmidt revealed he’s never even been to the largest city in Nebraska.

As part of his interview with Mik’d Up this summer, Schmidt was asked what is the No. 1 thing he’s looking forward to as part of his college career. The youngster had no hesitation before revealing the loftiest of all goals.

“I mean, easy answer is a national championship,” said Schmidt. But whether it’s in Omaha after winning the whole thing, or following another momentous victory, Schmidt says he wants to get in on a dogpile at the college level.

“But like, I just want to dogpile again,” he added. “Like, dogpiling in high school was so fun and all my boys around me. But I guess doing it like on an even higher level just seems like so fun and amazing.”

There you have it, William Schmidt’s No. 1 goal at LSU is to participate in another dogpile, of course, hopefully one that’s celebrating a national title.

Schmidt was a stud prospect coming out of high school, which is why he was so coveted by the MLB. However, he revealed to Mik’d Up that ultimately, it was the LSU staff that made Baton Rouge more appealing than the pros right now.

“Like, the coaching staff there, I think I ran into the right ones at the right time,” he answered when asked why he made the decision to stick with his college commitment.

“They’re great, super good. They’re going to put me in the best position that I need to be in 3 years I think,” Schmidt added. “So I’m just super excited to get to work with them and, like, I think they’re going to put me where I need to be, or where I want to be.”

Jay Johnson and the LSU staff certainly left a positive impression on the youngster, as Schmidt is excited to further develop himself as a Tiger while also getting to play in front of a terrific fan base, also competing for national championships in the best baseball conference in America.
