Florida State transfer WR Jordan Scott commits to Maryland

Former Florida State wide receiver Jordan Scott has committed to Maryland via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Scott was the No. 276 wide receiver in On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.
Scott played two years at Southwest Mississippi Community College and transferred to Florida State in December. However, he shocked fans in April when he left the program before ever playing a game for the Seminoles.
Standing at 6-foot-7, Scott had a breakout season during his sophomore year at SMCC. In turn, he was the No. 2 JUCO wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Florida State’s coaching staff was hopeful that Scott could be another lengthy option out wide, similar to 6-foot-7 WR Johnny Wilson. When Scott committed to the program, he seemed to be embracing this idea.
“Oh, that definitely played a role in my recruitment for sure,” Scott said. “Just the fact that somebody that tall, they invested in him, put their time in him, they made it happen for them to go to the NFL… Being compared to him is not a bad thing because of the production he (had) here.”
Despite his size and being a four-time state football champion in high school, Scott didn’t receive much attention from Division I programs coming out of high school. Thus, Scott took his chances and developed at SMCC instead.

“We just didn’t have that much exposure where I’m from,” Scott said. “I was under-recruited. But I took the chance and I bet on myself. I went JUCO because I knew I was better than I was in high school. I was underrated kind of. So, I took the time to go to JUCO and changed my life.”
He is the 14th player Maryland has added via the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. In contrast, the Terrapins have lost 21 players to the portal. They are currently ranked No. 33 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.
Maryland is coming off a rough season under head coach Mike Locksley. The team posted a 4-8 overall record and a 1-8 mark in conference play. With players like Jordan Scott by his side, Locksley will look to lead the Terrapins in a bounce-back effort in 2025.
