Former Alabama, West Virginia linebacker finds new home in the Big Ten
After stops at Alabama and West Virginia, linebacker Vandarius Cowan has found his home. On Thursday, the former four-star recruit made it official, joining the Maryland Terrapins.
“Officially official,” the program tweeted, with a graphic of Cowan in the Terrapins uniforms. “Welcome to the family, @vandarius98!”
First, Cowan started his college career as a member of the Crimson Tide. After spending one season in Tuscaloosa and accumulated two tackles, he decided to take his talents to West Virginia.
While the linebacker found more success with the Mountaineers, it still wasn’t the production he envisioned for himself. In three seasons with West Virginia, Cowan amassed 38 tackles, 3 sacks and one forced fumble.
As you can see, the former four-star recruit hasn’t lived up to the hype yet. However, Vandarius Cowan will look to make his biggest impact yet with the Maryland Terrapins.

More on Vandarius Cowan, Maryland Terrapins
Last season was a promising one for the Terrapins, as Maryland ended their season with a huge victory over Virginia Tech in the Pinstripe Bowl. With Vandarius Cowan joining the squad and many stars returning, Maryland is looking to make some more noise in 2022.
To begin the 2021 season, Cowan actually lost to the Terrapins — Maryland defeated West Virginia 30-24 to begin their season. While Maryland took care of business against the teams they were projected to defeat, they still couldn’t upset any of the Big Ten powerhouses they hoped to beat.
First, Iowa dismantled Maryland, 51-14. Then, Ohio State put 60 on the Terrapins. Finally, the team lost three straight to Penn State, Michigan State and Michigan — none of the games particularly close.
Now, Maryland hopes their momentum from the Pinstripe Bowl carries over into 2022. Adding Vandarius Cowan to the mix, the Terrapins will look to make some noise in the Big Ten when next season rolls around.
