Kansas' David Coit commits to transfer to Maryland

David Coit will be at his third school in three years and fourth of his five-year collegiate career as an entry into the portal. That program he’ll be transferring to now will be the ‘Terps as of today.
Coit has committed to the Maryland Terrapins in the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes per On3’s Joe Tipton on Tuesday.
Coit spent this past season with Kansas after two seasons prior at Northern Illinois as well as one at Atlanta Cape Community College, where he was the leading scorer in NJCAA Division III. With that, he has played in 116 games in college with 92 being in the past three years with the Jayhawks and Huskies in Division I.
Over those last three seasons, Coit has averaged 13.3 points (41% FG, 36.1% 3PT), 2.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 0.9 steals. He posted 18.1 points (41.6% FG, 35.4% 3PT), 3.1 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals as a two-time selection as All-MAC Third Team in his pair of seasons at NIU. He then, as a reserve for the Jayhawks, put up 5.1 points (37.8% FG, 38.7% 3PT), 1.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in his lone season in Lawrence.
Now, Coit is a Top-300 transfer per the latest update in On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players. He rated at No. 269 overall and as the No. 43 PG.

Coit is one of five transfers to leave the Jayhawks during this cycle, four of which were in their first years with the program with three being transfers in from just last offseason. He is the first to commit elsewhere while Rakease Passmore, AJ Storr, Rylan Griffen, and Zach Clemence remain available in the portal.
Maryland now has their third transfer in this cycle, all of which have come in the past week, in rebuilding their team under Buzz Williams. They also have had commitments from Pharrel Payne (Texas A&M) and Myles Rice (Indiana) with those two presently among the Top-100 transfers per On3. That’s with the program having lost six players amidst the coaching change with Ja’Kobi Gillespie (Tennessee) and DeShawn Harris-Smith (Georgetown) along with Rodney Rice, Tafara Gapare, Jahari Long, and Malachi Palmer.
