4-star ATH Zymear Smith commits to Maryland
Denton (Md.) North Caroline four-star athlete Zymear Smith has committed to Maryland.
He chose the in-state Terrapins over Penn State and South Carolina. Smith was previously committed to Alabama from March 9 to July 3.
The 5-foot-10.5, 170-pounder is the No. 368 overall prospect and No. 12 ATH in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 9 player in Maryland.
Smith took an official visit to College Park on June 21. Co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis led Maryland’s push for the Free State standout.

Last season for North Caroline High, Smith played running back and cornerback. He rushed for 670 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games while also tallying 22 tackles and three interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.
Terps continue to land local blue-chippers
The addition of Smith is another big recruiting win in the DMV for head coach Mike Locksley and Maryland. Earlier this month, the Terps landed a commitment from Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy four-star defensive lineman Bryce Jenkins, a top-400 overall prospect.
June also featured a pair of blue-chip pledges for the Big Ten program. Baltimore Archbishop Spalding four-star quarterback Malik Washington is the centerpiece of the class, checking in as the No. 260 recruit and No. 20 QB in the nation. On300 four-star running back Iverson Howard out of Gaithersburg (Md.) Quince Orchard is also in the mix as On3’s No. 21 RB.
“Just the ability to be home and my relationship with Coach Locks,” Washington told On3 when asked what set Maryland apart.
The Terps’ 2025 class now features 21 total commitments and ranks inside the top 40 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Other top commits in Maryland’s class include Baltimore Maury three-star linebacker CJ Smith, Miami Edison three-star cornerback Jett White, Quincy (Fla.) Gadsden County three-star OT Lamar Williams, Baltimore Mergenthaler three-star wide receiver Justin Devaughn and Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic three-star running back Bud Coombs.
