Maryland had a difficult season as a team in 2024, going 4-8 overall and just 1-8 in Big Ten play. That included a five-game losing streak to end the season that saw the Terrapins lose every game by multiple scores. That came after three straight seasons with a bowl game under head coach Mike Locksley. It was also the second season where the offense was run by co-offensive coordinators Josh Gattis and Kevin Sumlin.
The Transfer Portal opened on Monday, December 9th for the first of two windows for players to enter during the offseason. This comes alongside bowl preparation and signing high school recruits for teams. The other window to enter the portal will come following Spring practice. On top of that, if a head coach leaves their job, the portal would open for that individual team.
