Maryland QB Cameron Edge plans to enter transfer portal, per report
Maryland redshirt sophomore quarterback Cameron Edge plans to enter the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Along with North Carolina State transfer MJ Morris, Edge lost an offseason competition under center to current Terrapins starter Billy Edwards Jr.
Since, Edwards has further established himself in his redshirt junior campaign under head coach Mike Locksley.
Edwards, who previously backed up longtime starter Taulia Tagovailoa, has led the Terps to a 4-3 overall record, albeit just a 1-3 mark in Big Ten play. That said, Maryland’s first league win of the year was a memorable one. This past weekend in the Terps’ first-ever meeting with USC, they came back from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to beat the Trojans, 29-28.
Edwards completed 39-of-50 passes for 373 yards while throwing two touchdowns and a pick. He also ran for what ended up being the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute to go.

Averaging 301.9 passing yards per game, Edwards sits atop the Big Ten in that department. He’s also responsible for a 13:4 touchdown-to-interception ratio, not to mention his four total rushing touchdowns.
Edge, meanwhile, has played just 21 offensive snaps this season, according to Pro Football Focus: 18 against UConn in Week 1 and three against Villanova in Week 4. Edge has completed five of his eight pass attempts for 67 yards and a touchdown in those appearances.
Last year, the Smyrna High School product and Clayton, Delaware, native saw action in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, like Edwards. Edge completed 4-of-6 passes for 82 yards and logged his first career touchdown, as well as his first career pick, while the Terps defeated Auburn, 31-13.
Edge was a three-star prospect and the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 24 quarterback in the 2022 class.
