Dug McDaniel was one of the top uncommitted point guards still available in the portal. He’s available no more, though, with the news of his next school he’ll be transferring to.

McDaniel has committed to the Memphis Tigers from the NCAA Transfer Portal. That comes this afternoon per On3’s Joe Tipton.

McDaniel has spent three collegiate seasons with Michigan and Kansas State. He has made 92 appearances, 75 of those being starts, in averaging 11.8 points (39.1% FG, 32.6% 3PT), 4.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game for the Wolverines and Wildcats. That includes posting 11.4 points (37.8% FG, 25.8% 3PT), 4.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.7 steals a game this year in his lone season at K-State. With that, he has led his teams in assists in all three seasons of his career while once leading them in scoring and once leading them in steals.

McDaniel, a Washington, D.C. native, played high school basketball at Paul VI Catholic in Fairfax, Virginia. He was the No. 85 overall recruit there as a four-star in the 2022 cycle. He also rated as the No. 12 PG in the class and the No. 4 player out of the state of Virginia. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Now, in his second transfer in consecutive offseasons, McDaniel was among the better point guards left. He rated at No. 99 overall and as the No. 22 PG, as the No. 4 PG still in the portal, per the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players.

With that, McDaniel was the second highest-rated departure of the seven total this offseason from Kansas State. He was behind only Brendan Hausen (Iowa) as they’ve left Manhattan along with Achor Achor (Mississippi State) plus Baye Fall, Macaleab Rich, CJ Jones, and Ugonna Onyenso.

McDaniel is now the seventh addition in the portal, and highest-rated by far, this offseason for Memphis. The Tigers have also added Aaron Bradshaw (Ohio State), Sincere Parker (McNeese State), Zachary Davis (South Carolina), Quante Berry (Temple), Ashton Hardaway (Saint Mary’s), and Julius Thedford (Western Kentucky).
