4-star DL Ahmad Moten breaks down his commitment to Miami
On Tuesday morning, just over 24 hours before Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons Ahmad Moten signed with the school of his choice, he was having a conversation with Mario Cristobal.
The two were chopping it up, talking a little about life and football, then Cristobal got down to business. He knows how to recruit and he let the 6-foot-3, 290-pound four-star defensive lineman know he is important to Miami’s recruiting class.
And that one last push was all it took.
“Coach Cristobal talked about he needed me, how Miami needed me and I told him I wanted to be there,” Moten told On3. “He didn’t believe me at first.
“I told him again that I want to be there and that I want to be a ‘Cane. He got fired up as soon as he knew I was serious.”
That decision came down to the wire. Heading into the official visit to Miami over the weekend, Moten was leaning towards Oklahoma. The Sooners were in a position to land Moten, but something about the visit changed things.

“I can’t even explain it. Something in me told me to go to Miami. As I was finishing up the visit, it just hit me. I knew then that I was going to Miami.
“Before then, it was really all Oklahoma. Miami just felt like home. I really can’t put into words what changed my mind, but it was a gut feeling.
“Miami just felt right.”
With Cristobal coming in and taking over at the school he played at and won at, there is a new energy around Coral Gables. Moten is excited about the future.
“I am ready to help get the crib back to greatness again. It starts with the grind and I know coach Cristobal will have us ready.
“My goal is to go to Miami and win championships. That’s what it’s all about.”
Moten’s brother, Anthony Moten also played at Miami.
