Miami kept one of the top receivers in the 2024 recruiting cycle home in Miami Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star wide receiver Joshisa Trader. Trader pledged to the Hurricanes on July 13. Despite staying in contact with other programs, he stayed locked in with Mario Cristobal’s staff.

Trader is the nation’s No. 57 overall prospect and No. 14 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 9 prospect out of Florida.

“Oh yeah, the week before signing day I was definitely locked in with Miami,” Trader said after the first day of practice for the 2024 Under Armour All-America Game. “Other schools were still talking to me, but I was still definitely locked in. I still wanted to be part of bringing The U back.”

Trader said some of the schools that remained in contact included Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and Penn State.

Trader spoke with Jeremiah Smith daily in lead-up to NSD

The 6-foot-0.5, 175-pound Trader was a star on one of the country’s premier high school football teams — one that included another elite prospect in the same position group. Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver and No. 1 overall prospect Jeremiah Smith joined Trader in boosting Chaminade-Madonna to a state championship.

Smith had been committed to Ohio State since December 2022, but things appeared to get a little dicey down the stretch for the Buckeyes. Trader said it was a possibility that Smith might choose hometown Miami — going as far to include both a Buckeyes and Hurricanes hat in his backpack — but that he felt Smith was going to stay with Ohio State.

“I was talking to him like every day, because we go to school together,” Trader said about Smith. “I was talking to him right before signing day, we were talking. He was going to pick Miami but he chose Ohio State and I’m happy for him.”

Smith ended up signing with Ohio State after a bit of a waiting game on National Signing Day.
