Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star running back Byron Louis will be back in Coral Gables on Saturday for Miami’s recruiting cookout, he told On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

Louis took an official visit to see the Hurricanes over the May 31 weekend earlier this summer. Other official visits for the Sunshine State tailback included Florida State, Georgia and Wisconsin.

“Man, it was a great weekend,” Louis told Canesport after his official visit. “I was able to spend time with coach (Mario) Cristobal, and staying in Coral Gables is whole different world, a different bubble. Every time I visited I always went back home, but staying in Coral Gables, I just got a different perspective.”

Louis also praised Miami’s ability to develop an athlete on and off the field.

“Miami showed a genuine connection outside of football, outside of me having to run the ball or catch the ball or pass block – you still have to coach and build a man,” Louis said. “They were just expressing to me how valuable I am, but not just as a football player but as a human and how they can help me mentally and help me figure out life. A young college athlete, this is all new. NIL is new, transfer portal is new, so you want to meet genuine people that genuinely care about you.”

According to Canesport, the Hurricanes are expecting over 50 recruits in town for their annual recruiting cookout. Top visiting prospects include a five-star wide receiver, multiple 2026 targets and much of Miami’s 2025 commit list.

Louis is the nation’s No. 221 overall prospect, No. 15 running back and No. 33 recruit from Florida in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
