Brian Daboll has a new home as the news broke Friday that the highly coveted Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator was taking the head coaching job with the New York Giants.

In a wild twist where the NFL and college football collide, Daboll’s hiring will reportedly have implications on the Miami Hurricanes as they attempt to revamp the program with new head coach Mario Cristobal.

“Former Canes star Ken Dorsey was/is a very attractive OC candidate at his alma mater but UM sources knew the Bills QB coach/passing game coordinator is likely in line to become an NFL offensive coordinator, and Brian Daboll getting the Giants job makes the latter one step closer,” Bruce Feldman tweeted on Friday.

While there are clearly several moving parts before anything happens with Dorsey’s future, it’s safe to assume a chance to take on a NFL offensive coordinator position under a brilliant offensive mind would be the kind of gig that would sway Dorsey away from the Hurricanes. There wasn’t a certainty that Dorsey was locked into the position under Cristobal, but many college football insiders have reported there was interest on both sides.

In a wild NFL offseason so far, the New York Giants now have one of the top offensive minds available in Brian Daboll. His work to develop Josh Allen has been well-documented, and now he will have the same opportunity with another talented, yet raw passer in Daniel Jones.

Dorsey himself was a great college quarterback, so the combination certainly makes sense if it ends up happening.

Brian Daboll hired by New York Giants

The New York Giants have found their next head coach and they utilized a different perspective in finding him. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that sources believe that the Giants are working on a deal with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

The Giants have since confirmed the hire.

The deal with Brian Daboll reunites him with an old friend Joe Schoen. Schoen is the Giants’ new GM and was hired on Jan 21. But the real big plus with the two is New York believes that they would have alignment with the direction of the team, as both worked together in Buffalo. And that bodes well for quarterback Daniel Jones, who recently received a vote of confidence from the Giants ownership. They still believe Jones is the long-term answer at quarterback for the Giants and were looking to find a general manager and coach to help turn around his rocky start to his NFL career.
