Cam Ward: CFP committee 'left out the best quarterback in the country'
Miami fell short of its ultimate goal to make the College Football Playoff this season after a 10-2 regular season finish and missing out on the ACC Championship game.
Much of Miami’s success can be attributed to the weekly heroic performances of Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Cam Ward. Ward believes his ‘Canes received the short end of the stick in the CFP committee’s war room, but knows there’s nothing he can do to change that decision.
“I’m really over it at this point,” Ward said on Saturday morning on SportsCenter ahead of the Heisman ceremony. “Can’t go back in the past and control anything. I mean, at the end of day, they left out the best quarterback in the country. They left out the best offense in the country. So, you know, they’re gonna do what they got to do.
“All I know is we that we got a team to go play in next couple of weeks, a very good football team. My mind is focused on that.”
While he’s had a few days to digest not being in the playoff, when Ward joined SportsCenter earlier in the week he called it “crazy,” and reiterated how the committee left one of the most explosive offenses in the country out of the field.

“You’ve got the best quarterback in the country, we’ve got the No. 1 offense in the country, a top-five offense of all-time in college,” he said during a late-night SportsCenter appearance on Wednesday. “We ain’t been stopped all year. We have a top-25 defense.”
Ward revealed on Saturday that he play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Iowa State in two weeks even though he’s expected to be one of the first quarterbacks selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.
It gives the ‘Canes quarterback another opportunity to prove the committee wrong against a team that was also on the bubble in this year’s CFP field.
The Pop-Tarts Bowl between Miami and Iowa State s is set for Dec. 28 live from Camping World Stadium.
