Damari Brown shares how he’s leaned on brother Davonte during college transition
Miami freshman cornerback Damari Brown doesn’t have to look far for advice as he enters his first college season. His brother, fellow Hurricanes cornerback Davonte Brown, is right there to help him out.
With three years of college experience behind him, Davonte Brown has taken his younger brother under his wing entering this season. Speaking recently in front of media, Damari Brown explained how valuable that has been as he makes the transition from high school.
“I’m learning from him,” he said. “Just taking in everything that he does because he’s an experienced vet, so he knows the ins and outs. He knows how to practice. He’s a seasoned guy so any tools and nuggets he gives me like, ‘Little bro, you gotta do this. You gotta do that.’ I’m taking it in. It’s awesome to be out there with somebody I grew up with all my life.”
Damari Brown comes to Miami as a four-star recruit out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. He ranked as the No. 182 overall prospect and No. 22 cornerback in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Davonte Brown is also entering his first season with the Hurricanes after transferring from UCF this offseason. He started 31 of 36 games for the Knights over the past three seasons, totaling 86 tackles, three interceptions and 17 passes defended in that span.
That’s a level of production that Damari Brown hopes to emulate as his college career kicks off. The lessons he’s learned from his older brother have been both on and off the field, both equally valuable.
“He’s a humble guy,” Damari Brown said. “Not a man of many words. He stays poised on and off the field, too. He plays to his techniques and is just like a technician really. So just getting the technique down and just sharpening my craft.

Analyst calls out Kentucky fans
“I’m always like an ant when he’s out there just looking at him and looking at the reps. That’s on the field. But off the field, just being that low-maintenance guy. Staying true to myself just out the way, Just being humble and good to people.”
Damari Brown was a freshman in high school during Davonte’s senior season, so the two brothers have never gotten the opportunity to start on the field together. That’s something the two have discussed with hopes of one day making it a reality.
Damari Brown would have have to beat out Oklahoma transfer Jaden Davis and a host of others to earn that right this season. However, with Davonte Brown having two seasons of eligibility remaining, there’s plenty of time for it to happen.
“That’s been brought up,” Damari said. “That’d be cool. But just taking it one day at a time and if my name’s called, that’d be something. My family, that’ll just be something that’s not really heard of. Going out there on the opposite side of your brother, that’ll be something you dream of.”
