Dan Radakovich admits Miami is 'a little bit behind' in competing with bigger schools

Dan Radakovich came to the University of Miami with the idea of building something special, and that idea hasn’t taken a hit just yet.
While the Hurricanes Athletic Director knows his school may be a lacking a bit at the moment compared to bigger programs, Radakovich didn’t help Clemson become a top program overnight. Speaking with the media, the freshly-minted leader of the athletic department for Miami elaborated on his thoughts.

“I think we’re a little bit behind, but that’s okay. That gives us an opportunity to do things in 2022, ‘23 to make it right for the University of Miami,” stated Radakovich. “I’ve got to tell you, all of these buildings that they build around the country, you can’t pick up one in Athens, Georgia and put it in Austin, Texas. They don’t fit. It has to be what is right for your program, what’s right for your geography.
“So the amount of work that you do on the front-end to make sure that it fits your community, your university — that’s the real, that’s the fun part and that’s probably the most difficult part, as well.”
Still, many believed Radakovich was sitting on an untapped gold-mine when he chose to join Miami, and nothing has made the Hurricanes Athletic Director change his mind from that opinion since he took his talents to South Beach.

“I haven’t found anything that has taken me away from that, the idea that the resources are here,” added Radakovich. “Lets be clear, we have to go out and raise some money in this community, and we have to go out and raise some money with people who have been a part of our program to one level, we may need to kick them up an notch to get to the next level, and have those dollars to be able to put together the bricks and mortar.
“But there’s been nothing over the six months that I’ve been here, six months plus, that has dissuaded me from the fact that yes, that can happen, and we have the opportunity to move forward.”
With Dan Radakovich and Mario Cristobal leading the charge, Miami has the right leadership to make some noise in the future. However, the Hurricanes Athletic Director recognizes it may take some time to get to where they want to be.
