ESPN provides update on Miami forward Kyshawn George's ankle injury
The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program has been dealing with an unusually high amount of injuries this season. And in Monday night’s ACC showdown on the road against Virginia, the Hurricanes might have been dealt another significant injury blow, this time to wing Kyshawn George.
In the opening minutes of their matchup against Virginia, George went up to contest a layup by Cavaliers guard Reese Beekman. Reese was able to make the shot, tying the game at 2-2. But unfortunately, on his way down, George landed on the Cavaliers guard’s foot and went straight to the ground. It took some time, but eventually, he was able to get helped off the court and to the bench by some of his Hurricanes teammates. Shortly after the injury, ESPN courtside reporter Angel Gray provided this update on the Miami forward.
“just an update on Kyshawn George. The athletic trainer Sam Johnson was working on his ankle at the end of the bench. They were able to tape it up; he was able to double sock while he was putting on his shoe. I could hear him mouthing to the trainer, ‘I don’t know if I can do it.’ They went to the back of the tunnel; he tried to see if he could put pressure on that left ankle. It was very ginger. You could see him trying to see if he could work something out in the back. Right now he’s still walking it off, but we will have an update as soon as I can guys.”
Seth Greenberg on Jim Larrañaga sitting away from Miami players
Hurricanes head basketball coach, Jim Larrañaga, seems like he’s been frustrated as of late with his team. But things might have finally hit a tipping point for the Hurricanes veteran head coach in their blowout loss on Monday night to the Virginia Cavaliers.
After Miami lost star freshman forward Kyshawn George early in the first half, Virginia took over the game, winning in convincing fashion 60-38. Things got so bad that at one point in the second-half following a Hurricanes timeout, Larrañaga appeared so frustrated and distraught at his team effort that he could be seen sitting himself dejected on the bench during two timeouts while the rest of the team huddled on the court.

It should be noted, as of now, no one knows exactly what prompted the coach to stay out of the huddle.
Following the game, former 2x ACC Coach of the Year Award recipient-turned-ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg, challenged his former colleague while allowing for the idea some unknown piece of the puzzle may be revealed.
“I mean, look, he’s embarrassed by the way they played and he’s disappointed in the way they played,” said Greenberg. “Right now, maybe he doesn’t feel like he’s reaching them, but that’s not the way to reach them.
“Now, I don’t know. Maybe Jim was under the weather; we don’t know that.”
With the loss to Virginia, Miami falls to 15-8 on the season and is 6-6 in conference play.
