Former FIU baseball slugger Brylan West has committed to Miami out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to D1 Baseball’s Kendall Rogers. West batted .336 with 9 doubles, 12 home runs and 29 RBIs during the 2025 college baseball season.

The newest member of the Miami Hurricanes baseball team has spent two seasons at the collegiate level before entering the portal. Over that span he’s scored 140 hits, 101 runs, 73 RBIs and 23 home runs, so he’s expected to become a consistent bat to Miami’s roster next season.

West is the second transfer to commit to the 2026 Miami baseball team, joining Cian Copeland from Miami-Dade. The Hurricanes’ baseball season is not over despite gaining these portal commitments.

Miami is currently set to participate in the NCAA Tournament’s Hattiesburg Regional later this weekend. They’ll open up play on Friday, May 30 against the Alabama Crimson Tide as they look to claim their first regional title since 2016.

“[It’s] just the opportunity to play more baseball,” second-year Miami head coach J.D. Arteaga said ahead of the regional. “That’s what I’m happiest about for those guys. We have a handful of guys that have never experienced it. So, for the young guys moving forward and building the future of this program, it’s going to be a great experience. … And there’s a lot of guys that have never been there, some of the transfer guys. So, it’s a great experience.”

Miami is the No. 3-seed in the Hattiesburg Regional after finishing the season 31-24 overall. They’re taking on second-seeded Alabama (41-16), while Ivy League champion Columbia (29-17) and No. 1 seed and host Southern Miss (44-16) will do battle in the other matchup of the opening day.

One of those four teams will advance through to play the victor of the Nashville Regional in the Super Regionals next weekend. The Hurricanes will be hoping to claim their spot in that matchup beginning on Friday against the Crimson Tide.
