Five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott of Chicago (IL) St. Ignatius flipped his commitment from Ohio State to Miami Wednesday night.

The 6-foot-5, 310 pounder had been committed to the Buckeyes since July.

“From the first time they offered me to now they have never changed. Even when I committed they still recruited me and emphasized the need for my position there. I’ve built so many strong relationships there as well with everybody on the staff.”

His relationship with the coaching staff and their plan for him played a role in his decision as well.

“I am closest with Coach Schrum, coach Salavea, coach Cristobal, and coach Taylor,” Scott said. “They plan on using me from the 3 to like 6 so really just playing everywhere on the Dline.”

The Prairie State defensive lineman joins coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes’ 2024 class. He is accompanied by four-star athlete Joshisa Trader, four-star EDGE Marquise Lightfoot, and others.

Scouting Summary

On3’s Scouting and Rankings Team writes about him as a college recruit:

“Naturally-gifted defensive tackle with rare movement skills. One of the more unique jumbo athletes early on in the 2024 cycle. Considered the top prospect from Chicago in several cycles. Measured in at 6-foot-4 and close to 315 pounds prior to his senior season. Has solid length with 33-inch arms. A light-footed, nimble athlete who moves like a much smaller player. Lines up both on the interior and the edge for his high school. Creates regular disruption with his quickness and ability to convert speed to power. Chases down plays from the back side and runs sideline-to-sideline with ease. A loose, fluid mover with natural flexibility. Shows his natural explosion as a finisher. Also doubles as a dominant offensive lineman. Could be one of the top offensive line prospects in the cycle, as well. Relatively new to football, playing his first season at the varsity level as a sophomore. Has a background as a soccer and basketball player. Will need to continue developing from a technical aspect, particularly with his hands. Rapid ascension and quick improvement point to a high ceiling.”

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $314K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
