Francis Mauigoa jokes about on-field interactions with brother Francisco
Francis Mauigoa and Francisco Mauigoa are getting a really unique opportunity to play college football with each other
“It’s an amazing thing to be able to play with your brother,” Francis Mauigoa said at an April media availability after a spring practice. “Him being on the defense, me being on offense so you know we tend to get some family transaction there. We tend to talk to each other a lot in our foreign language.”
Francis said the banter between the two in their native Samoan tongue tends to be fun like you’re not getting the play right or to come line up against me.
He said the two also plan to do a fire knife dance for their teammates but need to get the knifes.
In the mean time, the two were facing off in spring ball but most of the time not in direct conflict.
“Not really like collide collide, but we tend to get washed down the line,” Francis Mauigoa said on April 11. “We haven’t really collide collide but we tend to get hands on and just ride it from there.”
The Mauigoa brothers also have an older brother in Frederick Mauigoa who played at Washington State from 2016-2019
Francis Mauigoa could be a Day 1 starter for Miami
Francis Mauigoa has the chance to be a Day 1 start for Miami this season as he was already practicing with the starters during the spring.

“It’s an honor to run with the ones now,” Mauigoa said. “But it’s still spring so job ain’t secured yet. Still working to that level. But it’s a pleasure to be able to gain that trust from coach Mirabal, coach Cristobal and especially the offensive coordinator.”
Francis Mauigoa enrolled at Miami as their highest-rated recruit. He was the No. 12 overall recruit and No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power is one who believes Mauigoa will be in the starting lineup come Septembers. He named Mauigoa to his list of players he expects to make an early impact as true freshmen in 2023.
“Based off what we’ve seen throughout the cycle, Francis Mauigoa looks like the most ready to play offensive lineman in 2023,” Power said. “That’s just what the doctor ordered for Miami as Mario Cristobal looks to build up his offensive line and establish a big, physical presence on offense. Mauigoa has the look of a foundational piece on the Hurricanes’ front and it would be an upset if he didn’t start as a true freshman.
