Miami Hurricanes guard Harlond Beverly has a nickname for Norchad Omier. He calls him “The Hulk.”

After the Hurricanes’ win over Syracuse on Monday night, Beverly explained why he came up with that nickname for Omier.

“I call him the Hulk,” said Harlond Beverly when asked about the energy Omier brings to the game.

“You watched him. He’s very strong. Super bouncy. He’s going against seven-footers every game that weigh just as much as him and the fact that he doesn’t get pushed around on the low block is very impressive to watch. I’m always amazing just watching him, seeing him battle people that got him by six, seven inches and he gets the best of them, most of the time.”

Norchad Omier came to Miami as a transfer from Arkansas State. This season, Omier is averaging a double-double every game, with 14 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

“So, it’s amazing to watch,” Harlond Beverly concluded.

Jim Larranaga evaluated the play of Norchad Omier

After Miami’s win over Syracuse, Hurricanes head coach Jim Larranaga praised the play of Norchad Omier.

“Well, Norchad, everybody knows, has tremendous energy, plays the game with such enthusiasm and kind of a reckless abandon. Sometimes that reckless abandon is very positive and helps us, gets the crowd involved. And sometimes, it puts him in foul trouble, sitting on the bench. So, we need to be a little bit better in not fouling,” Larranaga said.

“In the last several games, we’ve had at least one starter; but today, we had four starters with two fouls in the first half. And that impacts us. It impacts our substitution pattern, and it impacts how we play defense and offense. So, it was good that we were able to overcome that, that fouling from the first half, and still play better defense in the second half.”
