Former Houston wide receiver Sam Brown has committed to Miami, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Brown spent the past two seasons with the Cougars after beginning his college career at West Virginia.

Sam Brown was a three-star recruit coming out of New Hampstead High School in Bloomingdale, Georgia. He ranked as the No. 449 and No. 80 receiver in the 2020 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Brown began his career with the Mountaineers in 2020 and appeared in seven games with one start as a true freshman. He played only two games in 2021 to maintain a redshirt season and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Upon transferring to Houston in 2022, Brown immediately made an impact to start seven of 11 games in his first season. He finished that year with 41 catches for 471 yards and four TDs.

Brown is only the latest transfer to commit to Miami head coach Mario Cristobal. The team has already added over 10 transfer during or since the 2023 campaign, earning the No. 24 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Miami lands coveted ACC starting linebacker

On April 27, Miami landed a commitment from former Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman. He spent the past three seasons with the Cardinals and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Alderman started 13 games this past season to finish with 58 tackles (7.5 for loss) and 1.5 sacks. His eight tackles in a 56-28 victory against Boston College marked a career-high and he should have a chance to be a key contributor for the Hurricanes.

As a recruit, Alderman was a three-star prospect out of Valdosta (GA) High School. He ranked as the No. 1,253 overall player and No. 131 linebacker in the 2021 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Alderman played 13 games as a true freshman in 2021 and had the highlight of his season when he returned an interception 66 yards for the game-winning touchdown against UCF. He ended that first year with 17 tackles.

Alderman did not play in the 2022 campaign and ultimately opted to use his redshirt. The Hurricanes are coming off of a 7-6 season in which they ranked No. 45 in scoring defense and No. 24 in total defense.
