Miami Hurricanes shooting guard Isaiah Wong recently declared for the NBA Draft. This came after his fourth season at Miami, a year where the Hurricanes went to the Final Four and was named the ACC Player of the Year.

Now, with the benefit of hindsight, Wong explained what he thinks his legacy is going to be at Miami.

“I think my legacy is going to be just for my freshman to my senior year, I feel like I did a lot of things,” Isaiah Wong explained. “Coming into freshman [year], I struggled a little bit and I feel like I went through everything. Like what the school went through and what I went through as a player.”

Over the course of his four seasons with Miami, Isaiah Wong averaged 14.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

“I feel like I’ve been through everything, the struggles, the pains, and the mental toughness. I feel like just from what I’ve been through it’s been a process and I feel like it’s been a process to a great story coming into the historic part and just winning a lot,” Wong explained.

“Going to freshman, we didn’t win a lot, to now we’re winning a lot more games. Being in the ACC, sharing the ACC regular [season] title, and being the ACC Player of the Year. So, it’s just a great story.”

Isaiah Wong had the ability to return to Miami and it was a difficult decision to declare for the draft. However, it came down to feeling content with what he accomplished at Miami and following his dreams.

“I feel like it was a very difficult decision, for me and I feel like for the Miami fans. It was a tough decision of coming back or going to the NBA, but I feel like for me, I’ve got to follow my dreams and go to the NBA, and just like, at the end of the day, the NBA is the main dream,” Wong said.

“I mean, I’m historic in Miami history, and I feel like I’m good where I’m at with Miami fans and all that, so I feel like I’ve just got to chase more.”

Isaiah Wong on what the last two years did for Miami

Miami basketball is now one of the best programs in the country. It wasn’t always like that, though, and Isaiah Wong explained how the last two seasons changed things.

“I would just say for our last year and this year I feel like we started something big for the University of Miami and just for all the kids that’s coming out of high school, coming, just coming — they might come to Miami and try to just think of a winning attitude and have University of Miami as a winning school and just be in the March Madness every year,” Wong said.

“What we did for these past few years, it means a lot. And for the history of Miami and for the upcoming years for Miami, too.”
