Isaiah Wong shares what he expects from UConn
The Miami Hurricanes beat the Texas Longhorns in the Elite Eight with a lot of help from star guard Isaiah Wong. The Hurricanes’ reward for the win is a trip to the Final Four, where they will play the UConn Huskies.
UConn is on fire in the NCAA Tournament, having blown out every team that it has played. That included a dominant win over Gonzaga in the Elite Eight. Now, Wong has shared his thoughts on the Huskies.
“I feel like they’re a great team,” Isaiah Wong said. “They like to shoot threes and they play defense at the other end, and they have a lot of great shooters on the team. And they have a big that gets in the paint and likes to play hard. So, UConn’s a great team and they play good together.”
This has been an unexpected season in college basketball, with very few people predicting any of the Final Four teams would make it this far. For Isaiah Wong, he knows that the fans are incredibly excited about this rather improbable run.
“It’s just been great,” Wong said. “The fans are supporting us. Just walking around, they’re showing us love. We appreciate them for that. It just feels good being in Miami right now.”
That excitement is tangible, with head coach Jim Larranaga noticing it too. He said, “Well I look around and we have about a dozen or two dozen cameras going here, the media attention has been from start to finish. First of all we got tremendous student support and they cheered us on and helped us win the ACC regular season. And now we’re getting more media attention, not just locally, but nationally because of our run in the NCAA Tournament.”

Isaiah Wong says that playing in the Final Four is an honor
For most basketball players, being able to play in the Final Four is a dream. Isaiah Wong is no different in that regard.
“It’s been crazy. Fans are supporting us, and just walking around they’re showing us love. It just feels good to be in Miami right now. It’s just a little bit more, walking around, everyone looking at you and saying hello and great game,” Wong said.
“It feels like a big difference. Final Four is only four teams left, and you only have to win two games to win the national championship, so it’s a big honor to be in it at this point. Not a lot of teams come here, so it’s a big statement for us.”
