Jadais Richard injury update: Miami CB 'hurt significantly' per Mario Cristobal
Miami defensive back Jadais Richard was carted off the field in Week 10 after suffering an injury to his right leg against Duke.
The significance of the injury had not been revealed until Monday. Head coach Mario Cristobal updated his status heading into Week 11, noting that he will not be availbale on the road against Georgia Tech on Saturday.
“He got hurt,” Cristobal told reporters on Monday. It was a significant injury, so it’ll be a while before he gets back.
“I like kind of circling up everybody with the family and his people before just publicly talking about it. I think we owe him that respect, but he was hurt significantly.”
The junior has started the past five games for the Hurricanes. Richard was having one of his strongest performances of the season before going down with injury, logging five tackles, an interception and a pass breakup against the Blue Devils. On the season, he has 27 tackles, 2 pass breakups, a forced fumble and an interception.

As for who Cristobal will put in place of Richard, he didn’t specify anyone in particular but reaffirmed it’s the next man up.
“We have some guys that are really versatile, and some guys that now it’s their time,” Cristobal continued. “Now it’s their turn. … The injury bug, it’s not exclusive or unique to us, right? A lot of people are going through it. We saw some teams the other night, three, four offensive linemen down and going into places and just do a great job protecting and blocking.
“Now we’ve been hit a little bit with [the injury bug], and we certainly feel very confident in the guys that we do have. And when we practice on the back end, we do it like we do the offensive line, where guys are taking snaps at multiple positions so that we have more versatility. And that’s kind of coming to play now.”
Whether the injury will keep Richard out for the rest of the season remains to be seen. Until then, the ‘Canes will have to move forward against Georgia Tech without a key defensive back.
