Jim Larranaga explains why Miami teammates are rooting so much for Harlond Beverly
Miami Hurricanes guard Harlond Beverly came into the 2022-23 season excited to do something big, after missing 41 of 45 games with a back injury. However, as head coach Jim Larranaga explained, doing something big this season isn’t easy for him.
After Miami’s win over Syracuse, Larranaga spoke about the support that Beverly has, saying his teammates are rooting for him.
“I think his teammates are really cheering for him,” Jim Larranaga said.
“They know what he went through last year, they know when this season started, not the games but practice, he was 15 or 20 pounds overweight. He was not in good shape. He had normally won all our races, now he was finishing last and it takes a while.”
As Jim Larranaga explained, Beverly’s injury took its toll and it’s a long road back to being a great contributor because of that. However, he has come a long way.
“When you’re out for 10 months, a year, you slowly come back. You don’t come back like quickly and his case, if you see in the month of January, he’s been far more productive and the players on the team, I mean really enjoy it when he comes into the game. He’s going to give us a great effort at both ends.”

Jim Larranaga then asked how many points Beverly ended up with. The answer was 16, which Larranaga looked impressed with and nodded as the press conference ended. This season, Beverly is averaging 3.5 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
Harlond Beverly explains his nickname for Norchad Omier
Harlond Beverly likes to call Norchad Omier “The Hulk,” a nickname that he explained after the win over Syracuse.
“I call him the Hulk. You watched him. He’s very strong. Super bouncy. He’s going against seven-footers every game that weigh just as much as him and the fact that he doesn’t get pushed around on the low block is very impressive to watch,” Harlond Beverly explained.
“I’m always amazing just watching him, seeing him battle people that got him by six, seven inches and he gets the best of them, most of the time. So, it’s amazing to watch.”
