After battling illness against Duke, Miami Hurricanes guard Isaiah Wong has still been under the weather. Now, head coach Jim Larranaga has explained that it’s because Wong is dealing with a sinus infection.

Larranaga explained what Wong has been dealing with ahead of the team’s game against rival Florida State.

“As far as Isaiah Wong, he was sick as a dog. He’s got a sinus infection and he’s on medication. He told me this morning, he’s finally starting to feel better,” Jim Larranaga said.

“So, he’s been under the weather and, as a result, we basically were almost playing without him on Saturday. I had to take him out in the first half. He wasn’t in foul trouble or anything but he just wasn’t feeling good. In the second half, he finally made a couple shots, was feeling a little bit better, but his energy level was hard for him to breathe with the sinus infection that he had.”

Miami lost a close game against Duke on Saturday that easily could have been different if Isaiah Wong had been healthy. In 25 minutes, Wong scored just seven points. This season, he’s averaging 16.2 points per game and he clearly didn’t look right.

While Jim Larranaga says that Isaiah Wong is improving, it will still be interesting to see if he’s ready to go against Florida State on Tuesday night.

Jim Larranaga on why Harlond Beverly’s teammates are rooting for him

After missing significant time with a back injury, Harlond Beverly is in the process of making it back. His teammates are rooting for him in that process, as Jim Larranaga explained.

“I think his teammates are really cheering for him. They know what he went through last year, they know when this season started, not the games but practice, he was 15 or 20 pounds overweight. He was not in good shape. He had normally won all our races, now he was finishing last and it takes a while,” Larranaga said.

“When you’re out for 10 months, a year, you slowly come back. You don’t come back like quickly and his case, if you see in the month of January, he’s been far more productive and the players on the team, I mean really enjoy it when he comes into the game. He’s going to give us a great effort at both ends.”
