Jim Larranaga says Miami was 'out of character' in loss to Georgia Tech
Miami suffered their second loss of the season last night in a 76-70 road loss at Georgia Tech. A lot went wrong for the Hurricanes but, after the game, Jim Larranaga pointed out one issue that he didn’t appreciate for playing a part in the defeat.
Larranaga described his team’s performance as ‘out of character’ during his postgame press conference. He pointed out how hard the Yellow Jackets played and how it affected the outcome in comparison to Miami’s effort level and what it led to for them.
“The game comes down to the motivation of how hard kids are going to play,” said Larranaga. “I thought the Georgia Tech players played extremely hard and that led to a lot of good decisions. I thought our guys were a little bit out of character. A lot of the credit goes to Georgia Tech’s defense because we weren’t making the shots we can make.”

Georgia Tech led by as much as 12 inside McCamish Pavilion as they shot 41% from the field. On the other side, they held Miami to just 35.3% shooting from the field. That includes a 5-32 mark (15.6%) from distance. The Yellow Jackets had eight more turnovers than the Hurricanes. However, they offset that by outrebounding them by 10 on the glass and recording three more assists.
This performance was not reflective of a Miami team who has already knocked off teams like Virginia, NC State, and Providence this season. They also were coming in to Atlanta with one of the country’s better win streaks at nine games. In the end, though, this reflects a lot more on the fight the now 8-6 Yellow Jackets showed considering the start to their ACC slate. Still, Larranaga was naturally not proud of his group after this one. Now he will expect some much improved motivation by next week for their next game against Boston College.
